The preparation of a diploma thesis at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Sciences is mandatory for students in the undergraduate program and is credited with 18 ECTS credits. The assignment is officially designated in the 8th semester of study. The thesis can be either a literature review or a research project. In the case of a research project, students are expected to conduct primary or secondary research and analyze the collected data. Once the thesis is completed, students are required to publicly defend it.
The preparation of the diploma thesis helps the student understand the importance of linking scientific research with nutritional practice and gain knowledge and experience in:
- A) Identifying, formulating, and substantiating the significance of a problem directly related to the field of Nutrition.
- B) Investigating and presenting the problem through a review of the relevant recent literature. Since most of the available literature is in English, students must be able to read scientific articles in English, understanding at least the main points of each article.
- C) Designing and conducting a critical literature review and scientific study.
- D) Writing and presenting a comprehensive scientific thesis that contributes to scientific knowledge and possibly proposes solutions to the identified problem.
